Can I Wear a Wetsuit?

We follow the USAT guidelines of 78 degrees and below water temp is wetsuit legal. As this race is early in the year you have near 100% chance that it will be wetsuit legal. We highly recommend wetsuits as it will make your swim more comfortable, faster and safer. If you don't own one, or cannot borrow one, you can rent one for the day at
www.wetsuitrental.com Generally expect water temps around 70 degrees.

What Swim Wave Do I Go In?

First wave will go at 8:00 a.m. depending on age-group, with successive waves to start three minutes later. We generally follow the patern as follows:
Wave 1: 30 - 35 Males not first-time triathletes
Wave 2: All Females excluding teams
Wave 3: All Males 29 and under, 40 and over except first-time triathletes
Wave 4: First-time males, teams
Depending on the numbers in each catagore this may be altered. Each wave has a unique colored swim cap supplied in your race packet.

What Direction Do I Swin In and Do I Have To Go Outside Each Buoy?

You will swim in a clockwise fashion starting on the left, between the shore and the buoys. All red buoys are directional, and you may swim to the inside of them if you prefer. However, the yellow buoys are turn buoys, and you must swim to the outside of them. You will exit the swim up the concrete ramp and run up to transition.

How Hilly is the Bike Course?

The bike course has several rolling hills. The pavement itself is in great shape so it is considered fairly fast. The largest hill is just outside the park which you will have as a downhill at the start, and an up hill just before the finish. The course is a true out and back with a red traffic cone in the middle of the road at the turn around.

Please Explain the Bike Drafting Rules?

Keep at least three bike lengths of clear space between you and the cyclist in front. If you move into the zone, you must pass within 15 seconds. Position--keep to the right hand side of the lane of travel unless passing. Blocking--riding on the left side of the lane without passing anyone and interfering with other cyclists attempting to pass. Overtaken--once passed, you must immediately exit the draft zone from the rear, before attempting to pass again. A certified USAT official(s) will be on the bike course and will give drafting penalties.

How is the Trail Surface on the Run Course?

The run course is mostly on smooth paved trails except for the last 2/3's mile. The last 2/3's is on packed dirt trails around the lake before you head to the finish on the park road. No motorized traffic will be allowed on the run course. The run course is almost all flat with a couple of small hills on the dirt section.

Where to the proceeds from this event go?

The race is organized and run by the Terre Haute Triathlon Association, which is a non-profit. Most of the proceeds are donated to a mission school in Haiti. Additionally some proceeds have been directed to local school programs to support their swim or cross country teams.
